    Bus Drivers Learn Sign Language

    Oct. 21, 2022 - "She's always smiling and full of good spirits," said Melinda Rice, school bus driver. She's referring to Zoey Williams, a four-year-old student who attends Michelle Obama Early Childhood Academic Center in the Riverview Gardens School District. Williams is autistic and deaf, and in the early stages of learning modes of communication.

    South Tech Students Introduced to SkillsUSA

    Oct. 17, 2022 - Phil Patterson and Joanne Fisher, South Tech Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) advisors, held an ice cream social for students to inform them about SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA is an organization that hosts district, state, and national competitions for technical education students. There are nearly 100 different categories, which include nurse assisting, extemporaneous speaking, T-shirt design, plumbing, carpentry, and more.

    105 Litzsinger Students Receive Hearing Screening

    Oct. 13, 2022 - SSD audiologists and nurses collaborated to provide over 100 hearing screenings for students at Litzsinger School. Every student at the school had the opportunity to have their ears checked at no cost.

    Dr. Darryl Diggs has been named by the St. Louis Business Journal to its "40 Under 40" list of business professionals for 2022. He became SSD's assistant director of equity in teaching and learning on July 1. Read more...

    2023-24 Unified Calendar Update

    October 12, 2022 - During last night's meeting, SSD's Board of Education reviewed updates to the 2023-24 calendar. The updates will align our SSD calendar with those of our partner districts. The Board will vote to approve the changes for the 2023-24 calendar at the next Board Business meeting on Nov. 1.

    Teachers Learn to Use Powered Chairs at Workshop

    Oct. 10, 2022 - The course Assistive Technology: The Power of Power, presented by Lisa Rotelli, director of Adaptive Switch Laboratories, and Michele Bishop, a clinical educator at InvaCare Corporation, was held at SSD Central Office in October. The purpose of the two-day workshop was to provide teacher-level staff hands-on experience with powered mobility.

    Oct. 6, 2022 - Grants for projects directly impacting students were recently awarded by the Missouri Retired TeachersAssociation/Foundation to Jean Ann Goldstein and Shauna Gholston.

    Pattonville Students Attend Cardinals Game

    October 4, 2022 - In early September, 21 SSD students, staff, and parents from Pattonville School District attended the Washington Nationals vs. St. Louis Cardinals baseball game. SSD Teacher Carrie Cobb and Pattonville Teacher Tina Rellergert received complimentary tickets through the Cardinals' Community Ticket Program.

    September 16, 2022 - The hallways of Southview School were filled with colors of the rainbow as students and staff celebrated International Dot Day on September 15. The global holiday is based on the book "The Dot," by Peter H. Reynolds.The book encourages students to showcase their creativity and be courageous and collaborative.

    Ritenour Teacher Creates Core Board for Staff and Students

    September 15, 2022 - To help maximize students' learning in and outside the classroom, Speech Language Pathologist Kari Lane decided to create a core board. It's a type of communication tool that has symbols, bright colors, and common words.

    Ackerman School Holds 12th Annual Fishing Field Trip

    September 9, 2022 - Nearly 175 staff and students at Ackerman School made the journey to St. Ferdinand Park for the school's annual fishing field trip. Ackerman works closely with the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Nature's Calling program to provide this opportunity to students.
